Day 1 – USA/London

Leaving San Francisco was shockingly quiet. I’m glad I opted for two hours instead of the standard three hours for international flights.

SFO Airport – TSA Pre still saves time!
SFO Airport – Crickets

Long flight on United Airlines, but not a full flight, and they let people spread out. I ended up with a row to myself and stretched out to snooze, but couldn’t not catch any sleep. Gave us three meals, beverages, and in flight entertainment. Definitely made the trip pleasant.

Missed my flight to Amsterdam 😟

We circled London for about 30 minutes because of “rain.” Booked my flight to Amsterdam too close to my LHR arrival and didn’t anticipate the size of Heathrow. Had to schedule another flight four hours later.

LHR Airport – For All Your Shopping Pleasure!

London Heathrow, Terminal 5! Holy cow, I thought Vegas was bad, this is the epitome of shopping. It’s basically a mall with boarding gates in between. Found this small room labeled Changing / Assistance, and peeked my head in to see if it was somewhere I could chill. Crammed with people, no windows, no light, and stuffy. Looked like COVID breeding ground! Finally found an area labeled as a Quiet Area with lounge type chairs.

  1. Istanbul’s airport was like that too! I couldn’t find a quiet place just to sit. It was just a big shopping mall.

SFO’s International Terminal on the other hand has a Reflection Room for those wanting quiet and and outdoor space at the gates where travelers can get a little sun and air before a long flight.
