Day 9 – Lagos/Porto

I didn’t get to spend enough time in Lagos to look at the sights, but would come here again to explore more. Talked to people who had move to Lagos and they love the chill vibe here.

Grabbed some breakfast and packed up. Did a brief walk and found some street art graffiti.

Time to grab my stuff and walk to the bus station to catch my FlixBus to Porto! The bus trip takes about 7 hours and 30 minutes and a distance of 556 km/345 miles. Ticket cost is €34 .

The FlixBus grows on you!

Stopped now in Lisbon. Unable to get good pictures of the city from the bus as we drive through, but it does look amazing!

Stoping in Coimbra, one of the places I was interested in visiting. Looks like we are doing a drop-off/pick-up. Coimbra is the university town. It’s dark now, but what I can see they have some beautiful buildings. Crazy traffic here – must be rush hour. Glad FlixBus is doing the driving!

Have finally arrived in Porto at the central bus/train station (Campanhã bus terminal – Terminal Intermodal de Campanhã). It’s a huge facility constructed out of concrete. Trying to figure how to get out to the street and find a bus stop is a bit daunting. Took the 400 line to the Selina Porto hostel – a 28 minute ride instead of a 50 minute walk. Bus fare was €2.50 cash only or pass.

Got checked in and introduced to my room. Nice and clean with compartments for your gear and power outlets. Not feeling the welcoming vibe like the Olive hostel.

Dropped off my stuff and went next door to the Thailander for some Pad Thai.

Probably will crash early tonight and then explore the city tomorrow.

  1. So what’s the deal on the hostels? Have they changed age limits? You always have had a youthful face so no offense!!
The patchwork of areas is something we always see! Welcome to Europe!! It’s great to meet the people there and so cool you ran into Manuel again!!

    1. I haven’t come across any age limits at the hostels so far. Those “party” type hostels may have an age restriction. They don’t want any old farts crashing their party! 😉
Really glad I was able to meet up with Manuel. He considers me his “cool” dad!

      1. What if the old farts know how to party? I seem to remember take out beer across the street and questionable food from a crock pot!!
You’re a cool dad now? Good for you!!!

  2. Super interesting information on Porto! Great mix of gothic and Romanesque architecture. I enjoyed your commentary on restaurants and the hostel. Maybe the age limits of the past aren’t so great for business!!?? You keep going cool Dad!!!
